PALO ALTO, California, Sept. 21, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Koji Tanabe, Founder and CEO of I Peace, Inc. (https://www.ipeace.com), has been selected by the judges of the World Biz Magazine Annual Awards to be a recipient of the “Top 100 Innovation CEO – 2021” (https://www.worldbizmagazine.net/).

I Peace, Inc. is a Palo Altobiotech startup based on Nobel Prize-winning Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) technology and has successfully developed a new system to mass-manufacture clinical-grade iPSCs for cell therapy in a closed, palm-sized cassette . I Peace supports research institutes and pharmaceutical companies around the world by providing clinical-grade iPSCs that meet regulatory standards in the United States and Japan.

Koji obtained his doctorate under the supervision of Dr. Shinya yamanaka, a Kyoto University researcher who received the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery that adult somatic cells can be reprogrammed to become pluripotent. Koji was engaged in iPSC research from the start and was the second author of the research paper on the first successful generation of human iPSCs. He founded I Peace, Inc. in 2015, with the goal of transforming iPSCs from a research tool into an essential product of life. I Peace has focused on the development and refinement of iPSC manufacturing technology since its inception in 2015. In 2019, the company began providing research-grade iPSCs to research institutes and pharmaceutical companies. In 2020, the company successfully developed iPSC manufacturing technology into a closed, compact and modular automated device, paving the way for mass production of iPSC with drastic cost reduction. In 2020, the I Peace cell manufacturing plant in Kyoto, Japan (Peace Engine Kyoto), obtained a permit by from Japan Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare to manufacture specific cell-based products and began to provide clinical grade iPSCs. In the same year, the company also began providing clinical grade iPSC personal banking service. In 2021, the Peace Engine Kyoto cell manufacturing plant received third party GMP certification.

On Founder and CEO Dr. Koji Tanabe

Dr. Koji Tanabe got his doctorate. of Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, working in the professor’s lab Shinya yamanaka, 2012 Nobel Laureate in Physiology / Medicine. There, he spent eight years researching iPSCs starting in 2006 – the early days of iPSC development – and became the second author of the scientific paper reporting on the first successful generation of human iPSCs at world. After obtaining his doctorate, Dr Tanabe moved to United States and joined the Dr. Marius Wernig laboratory, which is part of the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Stanford University Medical School, where the world’s first successful direct reprogramming from skin cells to neural cells was performed. Dr Tanabe’s postdoctoral work in Dr Wernig’s lab focused on direct reprogramming of blood cells into neural cells and the iPSC reprogramming mechanism, where he also contributed to numerous scientific papers on iPSCs and direct reprogramming into neural cells. . After a period as a visiting scholar at StanfordDr. Tanabe founded I Peace and has been its CEO ever since. He received an overseas research grant from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science.
